Letter from the Athletic Director

Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year!

My name is Patrick Kind and I am the Athletic Director for Webber Middle School. I wanted to welcome you to middle school and share a few bits of information about athletics. Some of the registration process has changed this year and we wanted to help provide some information to help with this new process. I have also included some information for our sixth grade families as they are new to the Panther Family. I hope you find this information useful but if you need any help please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Schmieden or myself.

Webber is very fortunate to have a very robust athletic program. Our teams are very competitive and have also been recognized for outstanding sportsmanship displayed by our athletes. During the sixth grade school year  boys and girls can participate in three sports and I would highly encourage them to get involved and participate. It’s a great way to meet students and staff plus you get the added benefit of physical exercise! But before you can participate in sports please make sure that your child has a current physical on file with the school, and all athletic fees have been paid. Athletic fees can be paid via school pay (see the link below).  In the fall, sixth graders can participate in cross country. Marc Long is the head coach and he can be reached at  (mlong@psdschools.org) if you have any questions. The other two sports that sixth graders can participate in during the school year are during the spring and they are track, and boys and girls golf.

To complete the registration process please read below:

All middle school students participating in PSD Athletics must complete the https://www.psdathletics.org/msreg.  To do this please scroll to the bottom of the page and create an account with Sports Engine. You now have the option to register your child for sports online using https://www.psdathletics.org/msreg or https://www.psdathletics.org/page/show/4150369-middle-school-sport-information to complete by hand. Keep in mind that online registration still requires families to submit a hard copy of the physical form, complete with a doctor signature. The physical is valid for 365 days  and expires one year from the original date of completion. It is recommended that  you being to think about making appointments for your yearly physical exam as soon as possible. Athletic registration also includes  a fee of $110.00 (per student, per sport). Payments can be made via https://psdschools.schoolpay.com./ or with a check payable to Webber Middle School. The registration process and payment of $110.00 must be complete prior to the first official practice/tryout or students will not be allowed to participate.

If you still have questions please contact Ms. Schmieden (kschmied@psdschools.org)  or myself (pkind@psdschools.org)

Webber Cross Country Preseason Camp and Season Info:

Preseason camp will run from August 13th to August 19th (excluding the weekend) from 3:05 pm to 4:35 pm. This camp is optional, but strongly recommended for new and returning runners. Runners can come to any or all of the camp days. In order to participate you must submit a physical to the office and register for cross country at www.psdathletics.org. You do not have to pay the district athletic fee yet. We will meet by the flagpole in front of Webber during the preseason camp. Please arrive in clothing and shoes that you can run in and bring a water bottle.

The official season starts on August 20th. These practices are mandatory. Players must have registered on www.psdathletics.org, paid their athletic fee ($110) and submitted their physical before being allowed to participate. Practices will be held every school day from 3:05 pm to 4:35 pm.

Webber cross country is a fall sport that is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys and girls. Cross country is a no cut sport and all athletes compete equally. Cross country will practice every school day from 3:05-4:35 pm. We understand that many athletes who are interested in cross country may be involved in other fall sports at the club level (soccer, lacrosse, etc.). Webber cross country is flexible and we are willing to work with all athletes. We have had great success in the past working with any athlete that wants to give cross country a try. We will do a variety of workouts throughout the season to prepare our athletes for the 5 meets that we will compete in this year. Each meet will consist of a boys race and a girls race. Runners will race on courses that are between 2-2.5 miles. Meet dates this season are:

Thursday, September 5 (Lincoln Invite at Lincoln MS)

Friday, September 13 (John Martin Invite at Fort Collins HS)

Saturday, September 21 (Rattlesnake Rumble at Spring Canyon Park)

Thursday, September 26 (Webber Triangular at Webber MS)

Saturday, October 5 (DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP MEET at Fort Collins HS)

Saturday, October 19 (State Championship Meet in Denver) optional but we are hoping many runners will want to run this meet this year.

In the meantime, the best thing you can do this summer is to start running! Try to run for 20 minutes or more 4-5 days per week. Coach Long will be at Webber on the following Mondays at 7:30 am to run with any interested athletes: June 10, June 17, July 1, July 15, July 22, July 29, and August 5. We will finish by 8:15 am. Meet Mr. Long by the flagpole near the front entrance.

In addition, here are some other opportunities to help you focus on your cross country training. The Mountain Avenue Mile is a one mile race on Mountain Avenue. It is a fun and fast race! Any interested Webber runners can register to run on the Webber team for this race. It will be run on Thursday, August 15 at 6:30 pm. The cost is only $5 for those running on the Webber team. Go to mountainmile.com to register. Enter Wave 2 (Competitive boys and girls).

Finally, the Fortitude 10k race has created a program for middle school runners called Fort Dashers. If athletes want to run the Fortitude 10k (which is held on Labor Day), they can do it as part of the Webber team and get a discounted price ($26). If interested, visit https://fortitude10k.bolderboulder.com/fort-dashers/ to register.

Please email Coach Long at mlong@psdschools.org if you have any questions. The district athletic website is also very helpful with forms and schedules. Please access it at: https://www.psdathletics.org/page/show/4150369-middle-school-sport-information

Unifed Basketball begins April 1, 2020

Special Olympics is dedicated to promoting social inclusion through shared sports training and competition experiences. Unified Sports joins people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. It was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.

In Unified Sports, teams are made up of people of similar age and ability. That makes practices more fun and games more challenging and exciting for all.

Webber is looking for both student athletes (those with disabilities/ Autism Spectrum) and student partners (students without disabilities) to join and participate on the team.
